Description:
Slovak Humanitarian Council is a national voluntary center of humanitarian and charity organizations, civil associations and foundations functioning in social areas in wider sense. These organizations provide help, services, care, advisory activities and organize a variety of activities for benefit of socially disadvantaged and handicapped citizens.

The office of  the SHC is responsible for managing, methodic, coordination and information services for voluntary organizations which are its member. Currently, it unites 169 voluntary non-profit organizations in the Slovak republic. It provides them with the direct financial help for their activities and for humanitarian projects.

Activities:
• It represents its member organizations in legal processes, advocacy of physically handicapped and socially disadvantaged citizens.
• It organizes expert seminars and workshops inevitable for development of voluntary organizations.
• It develops cooperation with state and regional institutions.
• It publishes a specialized magazine for the voluntary sector, with appendix designated for handicapped people.
• Annually, it organizes a representative benefit concert at the occasion of the International Volunteer Day and International Day of Disabled Persons.
• It supports important humanitarian projects of its own member organizations thanks to gained financial resources.
• It uses material donations gained from sponsors to help people in crisis situations.
• It gains technical materials and medical equipment to facilitate the life of handicapped people.
• Annually, it awards moral prizes called "Gift of the Year" that is open to anybody who donated financial or material contribution to help people in need.
• In the case of natural disasters, it organizes targeted humanitarian aid (in the last years it helped Slovak citizens affected by floods).
• It cooperates with different important organizations from the third sector in Slovakia.
