Description:
ADRA is an independent humanitarian relief and development agency established for the specific purposes related to individual and community development and humanitarian aid. Its establishment in the Slovak Republic was motivated by the successful activities of the ADRA organization at an international level. The Slovak agency has become a well integrated member of its international structure.

Its basic goal in the Slovak Republic is to provide assistance in the social area, as well as in the area of natural disaster relief. Its projects are aimed at improving living conditions in orphanages and social institutions and thus, to a great extent, substituting the role of the state. For its activities it has been awarded three “Gift of the Year” prizes which are given annually by the Slovak Humanitarian Council.

Activities:
ADRA’s activities at an international level can be divided into five groups:
- food security
- economic development
- primary health
- disaster response and preparedness
- basic education.

Development and Humanitarian Cooperation:
In May 2004 the Slovak ADRA was placed on the list of so-called donor agencies operating within the worldwide ADRA network. This event put a new emphasis on development and humanitarian aid, particularly in developing countries. Since its establishment, the Slovak agency has been providing humanitarian aid to the poorest neighboring states and to people affected by natural disasters, such as Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Romania, Ukraine, etc.
