Development education and public awareness is an active process of learning, founded on values of solidarity, equality, inclusion and co-operation. It enables people to move from basic awareness about international development priorities and sustainable human development, through understanding of causes and consequences of global problems, to personal involvement and informed actions.

Development education and public awareness fosters full participation of all citizens in the worldwide battle against poverty and the fight against exclusion. It seeks to influence adherence to economic, social, environmental and human rights in national and international policies.

Development education and public awareness:

• Increases people’s awareness about mutual dependence and inequality in the world we live in
• Helps people to engage, to analyze, to reflect and to take action on local and global level and enables them to be active participants and citizens of the world
• Encourages people to be educated and take steps to change their social, cultural, political and economic background which influences their lives and lives of others on personal, communal, national and international level

• Informal education of different groups: political representatives, media, broader public
