The NGDO Platform is an association of legal entities - it is an umbrella organization of the Slovak non-governmental organizations (23 full members and 8 observers) which deal mainly with foreign development and humanitarian aid. The Platform’s role is to represent common interests of its member organization on the domestic as well as foreign level and to inform member organizations about current developments.

The NGDO Platform is one of the principal actors in the area of international development and humanitarian aid policy of the Slovak Republic, the EU and also other institutions focused on development in economically less advanced countries.

The NGDO Platform is the voice of non-governmental organizations that play an indispensible role in international development co-operation and humanitarian assistance. It represents them in this area both at home and abroad. The NGDO Platform is part of the Slovak Official Development Assistance (ODA). The main motives for supporting the activities of its member organizations in development and humanitarian assistance are:

• To share responsibility for global development and a moral duty to contribute to poverty reduction in the world
• To keep the commitment and obligations stemming from Slovakia's participation in international organizations and agreements
• To actively participate in development activities of the largest international donor- the European Union

The Platform's mission

• Advocate and promote common interests of its members in the realm of international development and humanitarian assistance at home and abroad
• Disseminate information about current events and developments in the area of international development and the possibilities for involvement of the Platform's members as well as about their cooperation with foreign partners
• Coordinate joint activities of the member organizations
• Cooperate with the public sector, the state departments and other entities active in the field of development and humanitarian assistance through consulting, issuing of comments, recommendations and opinions on issues of development cooperation, standard-setting for development projects etc.
• Conduct surveys and expert activities
• Actively cooperate with foreign subjects in the realm of development cooperation
• Arrange training and education for its members and members of the public related to development; pursue activities to shape public opinion to adopt an attitude favourable to development assistance
• Publish information materials and other documents on development issues
